Insurance Centers Mourns the Passing of Brian Thomas

Morgantown, W.Va., August 31, 2016 – Insurance Centers, Inc. has announced their President, Brian F. Thomas, has passed away today after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Thomas, a native of Bruceton Mills, began his insurance career when he purchased Insurance Centers from his father, Paul and uncle, Lowell in 1999. During his tenure, Insurance Center grew to 3 locations and 30 staff members. The agency won multiple awards for sales, service, and commitment to their clients and community including the F.W. Hirt Quality Agency Award, the highest honor an Erie Insurance agency can receive, in 2014.

“We are all deeply sadden by the news today. I worked with Brian for over 15 years. He was a leader, mentor, and friend. Due to Brian’s endless commitment to customer service, community, and his employees, his vision and legacy will continue for many years. He had a tremendous impact on all our lives, and we are thankful for it. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers,” said Executive Vice President Tony Deal.

Insurance Centers, Inc. has a succession plan in place and announcements will be forthcoming at a later date.

Brian was also President and CEO of Clear Mountain Bank, an independent community bank. Under his leadership, Clear Mountain Bank expanded to 13 locations in North Central West Virginia and Western Maryland.

Thomas served on many professional and community organizations in numerous capacities during his career. He was a former chairman of the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce. Thomas was a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council, and formerly served on the American Bankers Association’s Community Bankers Council. He was a member of Avery United Methodist Church, and served on many of the church’s operating committees.

Thomas earned a business administration degree from  West Virginia University and was a graduate of University of Virginia’s Darden’s School of Business with a M.B.A. In 2008, he was recognized as a recipient of The State Journal’s Who’s Who in West Virginia Business award, and was named Monongalia County Citizen of the Year in 2012.
