In 1958 Paul Thomas, founder of the agency, sold his first insurance policy while sitting at the kitchen table in his parents' home in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. That policy represented the beginning of Thomas Brothers Insurance Agency, which Paul owned together with his brother, Lowell.
Throughout the years, the agency grew and expanded in Bruceton Mills. The kitchen table grew into a one room office. The one room office grew into a small house converted into an agency. That small house grew into yet a larger building.
The agency expanded beyond Bruceton Mills in 1979 when it opened an office on the Mileground in Morgantown. This office was called the Morgantown Insurance Center and was created through the purchase of smaller agencies whose owners were retiring.
Kingwood became the next location in 1988. In that year, the Kingwood Insurance Center was created through the purchase of the Hooten Insurance Agency.
These agencies were combined together under a single name and single company today known simply as Insurance Centers, Inc. The name says it all – a center where individuals and businesses can come to receive the insurance products and services they need from professionals with extensive experience.
In 1998, Paul Thomas and Lowell Thomas decided to continue the Insurance Centers, Inc. story into the next generation through family perpetuation. In December 1998, Paul and Lowell Thomas sold the agency to Brian Thomas. Brian is Paul´s son and a nephew of Lowell. It is Brian´s intention to continue the Insurance Centers, Inc. as an independent agency for a long time to come.
In 1999, Insurance Centers purchased the Culleton Agency in Morgantown. By 2003, Insurance Centers had outgrown its Mileground location in Morgantown and relocated the office to the second floor of the Clear Mountain Bank building located in Glenmark Centre.
In 2007, the agency established its fourth location on Don Knotts Boulevard in Morgantown. This office specializes in offering commercial insurance services. From that humble beginning fifty years ago, Insurance Centers, Inc. has continued to provide excellent service to its customers and to expand its services and locations. Today, Insurance Centers enjoys four locations, employs 30 individuals, represents over thirty different insurance companies and services 8,000 clients.
